“Every man has his secret sorrows which the world knows not; and often times we call a man cold when he is only sad.”
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Recently, one of our brothers wrote and shared with me his observation of our brief conversation after Sunday service: “It seems as though you carry something sad within you, yet your compassion and wisdom seem limitless!” – It gave me pause. I walked away from his comment for awhile, but down deep a wound was reopened, and for that, I am sincerely grateful; not because it made me happy or feel good, the truth is, just the opposite welled up inside me. What I am grateful for is this person’s intuitive glimpse deep into me, and his mirroring gift that has given me the opportunity to reflect again on my own hidden sadness, and the genius it overshadows; a sadness and genius buried at some level within each of us. – Clay
