Trust is on the decline, and we need to rebuild it. That’s a commonly heard suggestion for making a better world … but, says philosopher Onora O’Neill, we don’t really understand what we’re suggesting. She flips the question, showing us that our three most common ideas about trust are actually misdirected.

A thought from MindMovies blog:

Do you find it difficult to trust others? Or are you naturally a trusting person?

So often, we rush to be suspicious of other people’s motives…

Or we tend to believe that trusting others can be unwise or naive…

And while believing this can be a type of defense mechanism or good in particular circumstances… have you ever considered that not trusting in others could also have a negative impact on your happiness and on other aspects of your life?

It’s true, but if the thought of it still makes you uncomfortable, here are 3 good reasons for you to trust others starting today…

Reason 1.

Trusting allows you to grow

When you trust people, you’re also bringing new energy and new experiences into your life. This means that you may be taking new chances and therefore, moving out of your comfort zone.

New experiences can actually make you a stronger person and will empower you to start living more fully.

So if you ever feel like someone has taken advantage of you or betrayed your trust, instead of using this as a reason to put up a trust barrier, learn from the situation and move on! Don’t let one experience define your whole personality or rule your future.

Reason 2.

Successful relationships are built on trust

Whether it’s business, romantic or friend relationships, trust is definitely one of the main factors in every positive and healthy relationship. The more you trust, the stronger the relationship, right?

Just think about the most important person in your life for a second…isn’t that the same person you trust the most?

And most likely the people that you do business with, and your friends are people who have earned your trust as well. So why not try and open up that circle of trust a little bit wider than it is right now?

Reason 3.

When you trust, you open yourself up to love

Living a life inspired by trust can be challenging to achieve, especially if you’ve been deceived in the past.

But did you know that every time you decide to put your trust in someone else, you’re also opening yourself up to receive from the universe, by living in the moment and not worrying about the past or the future?

And when you do this, you also initiate more happiness, love and abundance into your life and the life of others!

Also, when you trust people you’re setting up a subconscious desire in them to live up to your trust as well…

And in many occasions, you’ll find that this is all you need for them to rise to the occasion.

So next time you meet someone, how would you feel about giving them the benefit of the doubt and entering the relationship without judgement? I think it’s a great thing to strive for, wouldn’t you agree?
